Fever after splenectomy

If you’ve had your spleen removed, your body is more vulnerable to certain serious bacterial infections, which can move fast. So any significant fever should be treated as urgent — don’t wait to see if it settles.

Go to hospital the same day for assessment. Many patients are advised to keep a supply of antibiotics to start straight away — follow the plan your team gave you, and keep your vaccinations up to date.
