Many people with thalassaemia wish to fast during Ramadan. Whether it’s advisable depends on your own situation — your haemoglobin, medicines, and any complications like diabetes or heart involvement.

Plan ahead with your care team: they can advise on timing transfusions and medicines around fasting, staying hydrated between fasts, and what to watch for. Chelation and other medicines usually need their timing adjusted rather than skipped.

There’s no single rule — it’s a personal decision made together with your doctor.
